On the trail

Today’s guest picture shows the Royal Shakespeare Theatre at Stratford upon Avon.  It was kindly sent to me by Mike Griffiths, author of the Wilden Marsh blog which is always an interesting read.  He is a first class photographer. It was a dry morning again.  Recently the weather gods have taken to raining in theContinue reading “On the trail”

A slight dampener

Today’s guest picture comes from Mike Tinker who is on holiday in Oban.  He found a sunny moment among the clouds to visit Dunstaffnage Castle. We had a reasonable day today, breezy at times but with no rain until late in the evening.  However, we were not able to make the best use of itContinue reading “A slight dampener”

Slightly depressed again

Today’s guest picture comes from our neighbour Gavin.  He was walking in Edinburgh when he came upon this recently restored lift bridge on the Union Canal there. Thanks to another depression coming off the Atlantic, the day started with a light frizzle and developed into some steady rain which lasted until late in the evening. Continue reading “Slightly depressed again”

At home

Today’s guest picture was kindly sent to me by expert bird ringer, Dr Cat Barlow who had met this young kingfisher with an injured beak, probably caused by inexperience and hitting the bottom while diving for prey. The calm and sunny weather of the last two days gave way to greyer and windier weather todayContinue reading “At home”

Up hill and down dale

Today’s guest picture is a second helping of vegetables from our daughter’s allotment.  She is obviously doing a good job there.  Mrs Tootlepedal is very envious of the beetroot. I didn’t have very much time to look at our veg today as it seemed to start to rain as soon as I went out intoContinue reading “Up hill and down dale”

A garden visitor

Today’s guest picture, sent to me by her mother Clare, shows Matilda having fun in the Botanic gardens in Edinburgh this morning. We were promised a wonderful day of sunshine here today but when I set off to fill the Moorland bird feeders after breakfast, the hills were covered with clouds.  By the time that IContinue reading “A garden visitor”

Playing day

Today’s guest picture comes from my sister Mary and shows Mr Grumpy’s London cousin trying (successfully) to outdo a work of art in the background in Hyde Park. There were touches of frost to be seen when I got up.  However, it was cheerfully sunny and the day got warmer as it went on.  ItContinue reading “Playing day”

A certain familiarity

Today’s guest picture comes from my Somerset correspondent, Venetia.  A wood pigeon has made a nest in her hornbeam tree and looks quite comfortable there. We had a dry and sunless day and the wind had calmed down a lot so I thought it might be a good day to get out on my bike.  Mrs TootlepedalContinue reading “A certain familiarity”

Cold comfort

Today’s guest picture was taken by Thomas, one of our new members, and shows the Camera Club  group posing for a picture at the meeting on Monday. The forecast was quite correct and we got a dry day today which was welcome but our rapture was modified by a brisk and chilly east wind which kept theContinue reading “Cold comfort”

Slow going

Today’s guest picture comes from my sister Mary who found a wonderful display of crocuses on a visit to Parliament Hill Fields. We had another chilly morning with a touch of frost about so yet again I spent quite a lot of time watching the thermometer rising at a snail’s pace while I did the Continue reading “Slow going”
