We’re having a heat wave

Today’s guest picture is of a guest, not by a guest.  It was actually taken by me and shows Anne, who took yesterday’s guest picture of the hummingbird hawkmoth, chatting to Mrs Tootlepedal over the garden hedge about the excitement of the sighting. After the energetic activity of the last two days, I rose lateContinue reading “We’re having a heat wave”

A bit of a ruin

Today’s guest picture, sent to Mrs Tootlepedal by an ex work colleague Anne, shows a hummingbird hawkmoth in her garden. It is not a fantastic picture and you can just make out the moth visiting a flower but it was fantastic for Anne to see such a rare moth. I was in a cycling moodContinue reading “A bit of a ruin”

Slow progress

No guest picture again today but a big welcome to the first siskin in the garden for several weeks instead. It was mild yet again with gentle winds today, perfect for cycling and mowing the lawn and so I went cycling and mowed the lawn.  Everything in the garden was literally lovely and the onlyContinue reading “Slow progress”

End of season fun

No guest picture today as a portrait of a mother and daughter takes pride of place. After a late breakfast, I sneaked out for a pedal before Granny got up.  I was feeling rather tired and was pleased not to be trying to keep up with Dropscone but I hadn’t gone far before I metContinue reading “End of season fun”

Mrs Tootlepedal is out to lunch

Today’s guest picture, taken by my sister Mary a few days ago, shows a bed of tulips in St James’ Park, London and it just goes to show that however many lovely tulips Mrs Tootlepedal has in her garden, the Queen can afford more.  A lot more. The weather continues to behave very well forContinue reading “Mrs Tootlepedal is out to lunch”

Back on the bike

Today’s guest picture is of a showy bed of tulips in Regents Park, London where my daughter Annie was taking a walk. We are almost beginning to forget the five months of gloomy weather that have just passed as the present dry and sunny spell continues, bringing joy to the hearts of the townspeople ofContinue reading “Back on the bike”

At leisure

Today’s guest picture shows a view of Amsterdam.  It was sent by my sister Mary who has just come back from a visit there with my brother Andrew and my sister Susan.  They get about. I made an effort to get about a bit myself today as for once it was a completely dry dayContinue reading “At leisure”

A quiet day by the river

Today’s picture (from my younger son in the US)  is another example of German glass working skill from the Natural History Museum of Harvard. The weather today was as good as anyone has any right to expect.  The wind was kind, the sky was blue and  the temperature was just in that perfect spot betweenContinue reading “A quiet day by the river”
