A misty pedal

Today’s guest picture is another from my brother Andrew who is staying in London to help my sister Mary for a while. Our other sister Caroline joined them today. Andrew took this picture of Hawley Lock at Camden on a sunny but chilly day in the south. The temperature crept up a degree or twoContinue reading “A misty pedal”

A change in the weather

Today’s guest picture comes from my Somerset correspondent, Venetia. She had a furry rather than a feathered friend at her bird feeder yesterday. We read a news item today saying that this September had been one of the warmest Septembers on record. It doesn’t look as though October is going to break any heat records,Continue reading “A change in the weather”

Found

Today’s guest picture comes from my Somerset correspondent, Venetia. She noticed this ferocious looking bird while on a walk from her home to collect her car from the garage. I am starting today’s post with a backward reference to yesterday’s post. It was entitled, “Taxing day” and alert readers must have wondered why. I wasContinue reading “Found”

Slow cycling, slow cooking

Today’s guest picture comes from my Somerset correspondent Venetia. She came across this well decorated gate on a recent walk near her home. The day started off looking a bit grey, but it didn’t take long for the promised sun to appear. When it arrived, I got changed for cycling and Mrs Tootlepedal goodly stayedContinue reading “Slow cycling, slow cooking”

Paying attention

Today’s guest picture comes from my brother Andrew.  He visited Kedlestone Hall in Derbyshire on one of the better recent days. Mrs Tootlepedal went off to yet another meeting after breakfast and inspired by her vigour, I managed to get myself into my cycling gear and out of the house before coffee time.  Admittedly, IContinue reading “Paying attention”

I’ll follow the sun

Today’s guest picture comes from a recent visit to Liverpool by my brother Andrew.  He found it in a colourful mood. After some very grey days, we had a much more colourful day here today.  The sun shone and the wind dropped and it looked liked a good day to go outside. As usual, IContinue reading “I’ll follow the sun”

Cool walking

Today’s guest picture shows a real trouper from Manitoba.  Lucie sent the picture to me and tells me that on the day that she took it,  Manitoba was at -8c, and the little pansy was still going strong despite having been covered in four inches of snow and suffering several below freezing days We had anotherContinue reading “Cool walking”

A slow start but a better finish

Today’s guest picture comes from Dropscone and reveals that the path in yesterday’s guest picture did indeed lead to a lighthouse, though the lighthouse is rather unusual.  It is opposite the port of Port Ellen next to Carraig Fhada at Kilnaughton Bay. The lighthouse was commissioned in 1832 by Walter Frederick Campbell in memory ofContinue reading “A slow start but a better finish”

Double cream

Today’s picture is another from Anne’s visit to Elgin and shows what is left of Elgin Cathedral which was founded in the 13th century. We had another pleasantly warm day with a cooling breeze, only spoiled by the complete absence of any rain.  These are not words that have appeared on the blog before! MrsContinue reading “Double cream”

A pedal and a tootle and lawn care – a perfect day

Today’s guest picture  comes from my brother Andrew who is working his way back south after his visit to Langholm.  He took this picture of Morecambe Bay in the distance from the wonderfully named Hutton Roof.  By the time he got down to the seaside, the tide was out. Our spell of excellent weather continuedContinue reading “A pedal and a tootle and lawn care – a perfect day”
